Intro Mitchell Marotti

Hi my name is Mitchell Marotti.  My fun fact is that my dad is the head strength coach for The Ohio State football team.  My job is that I also work for The Ohio State football team but as a equipment manager. My job entails setting up drills, get players equipment for practice that day and getting anything that the coach needs.  On game days at the Horseshoe  I hold a board for coach Vrable to write ajustments for the d-line.  I was born in Ohio and then moved to Indiana, then to Florida, and then to Columbus. My family is from Pittsburgh.  My mom and dad went to the same high school.I have a sister who is going to Notre Dame.

My process for composing a poem was very important.  The challenges that I have found was remembering all the stuff about the person I was writing a poem about.  Also, what took the most time was composing my ideas on paper.  Some challenges that I faced where how hard it is to write a poem. My poem did turned out the way that I wanted.  This turned out the way that I wanted  because my thought and ideas were in there and ideas just coming to me.

Coach O

Coach O is one of the best
The Wolves’ football team put him to the test
The overtime win at Oak Hall
Is one that I will never forget

A man so dedicated and competitive on the field
Sometimes it is hard for him to yield
He coaches because he loves the game
Without him it would not have been the same

Always pushing us to do our best
The Wolves just had to do the rest
Training and practicing everyday
Coach O always had to have his way

And had us play every play
Like it was your last if you can
Because nobody walks except
Coach O and the postman

Although playing for coach O had to end
I would do it all over again
The best part was when we won
Because this made it very fun

Introduction by Lou Bournique

My name is Lou Bournique I still live at home but I'm moving to main campus next fall.  I work at Wedgewood country club as a server.  I have two older sisters, one has graduated from Ohio State the other will graduate in May with her phd in Audiology.  I love to travel outside of the country so far i have only been to Canada, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. I have two dogs they are both pugs, their names are Ziggy and Sammy.  I graduated from Olentangy High School in 2012 and right now my major is public health.

When i started composing my poem at first I didn't know who i wanted to do it for.  I decided that i would do it for my Grandfather who passed away in 2011 but while he was alive we were very close.  I haven't wrote that much poetry so I was unsure how my poem would turn out.  I found that it was pretty easy to incorporate some of the elements that we were supposed to include.  It took me about an hour to write. I think that it turned out pretty good but, I don't know how to tell a good poem from a bad poem.

In Memory of my Grandfather

By: Lou Bournique

You held me when I was afraid

you told me it would all be over soon.

You laughed with me when I was happy

your smile as bright as the sun.

You taught me to swim

in July years ago.

Your realism and sincerity showed me how to be a man.

If you here today I would thank you for that.

You taught me that

“Above anything is family, it is the most important thing”

When I saw you last

you were dressed in your dark, blue suit with a silver tie and shined black shoes

with a grin on your face

as you welcomed our family to your birthday celebration.

Intro Jenna Steward

Hello My name is Jenna Steward. My fun fact was I'm a Steeler's fan! I was born in Columbus Ohio and raised in Powell Ohio. I graduated from Olentangy High School in 2012. My plan is to major in phycology but more on the forensic side of it like studying serial killers or something!

While writing my poem i did have a little trouble. I actually wrote 2, i wrote one Saturday night about a friend of mine who passed away in July, he died of a drug overdose and i didn't want that to be said in the poem, if i wrote a poem about him i would want it to be a happy poem and I'm still kind of mad at him so it ended up being kind of mean so Sunday night when I'm about to type my paper i change my mind and wrote about my best friend who lives in Georgia we have been friends for about 7 years now, she moved there about 3 years ago but we still visit each other when we can!. This poem was pretty easy a lot easier then my first one. I'm no poet i can promise you that but i had some what fun doing this project. It brought back good memories.

My poem:

Best Friend
You’re not fat! Were the first words I ever said to you
You were the first person to teach me everything I know about boys and dating and fashion
And so many more other things
You were truly my partner in crime, like sneaking out and stealing my mom’s car… then wrecking it.
then debating if we should play dead because we were that scarred of my mom.
We would fight and scream at the top of our lungs at each other than 5 minutes later start to laugh about how stupid we sound
You were the big sister I never had and best friend I could ever ask for
But we both grew up and went our separate ways, now you live in Georgia and getting your life started and I’m so proud about all the things you’ve done and accomplished  but not matter what you will always be the
Shrek to my Donkey
The shaggy to my scooby
The Timon to my Pumbaa
And the Cheech to my Chong

Anthony Fernandez

Allow me to introduce myself. Fernandez is the name, Anthony Fernandez. I'm what you might call complex. I am high intelligent about animals and movies, which is all due in part to the fact that I am an honest to goodness couch potato. I do minimal to no physical activity on a day to day basis. I live with my parents. My mom is stay at home. My dad is currently unemployed, but he is working to get a job. They help me deal with my special needs. This is partially due to the fact that I have a condition called Asperger syndrome. This means I'm kind of an antisocial, preferring to be alone than with other people. I can read social cues that other people recognize from their day to day life. So, for example, if someone says, "I'm stuffed as a tick", I'll say in response, "that would mean that you have eaten 60x your body weight, which would mean your a dead man." I take things too literally and that can make my intelligence more of a curse than a blessing.

When I was writing my poem, it was tricky for a couple of reasons. For one thing, sad to say, I don't really have many acquaintances let alone close friends. Fortunately, I did have an old friend of mine that I knew from back in grade school. Even so, I found that I couldn't recall a time when he gave me valuable advice or something like that, which made putting details into the poem difficult. In addition, while I didn't have to, I decided to write the poem so that it rhymed, make a difficult task even more difficult. In the end, though, I believe that the poem came out as good as I could make it. I was able to give it necessary information while at the same time giving it a rhyming twist.

This is my poem.

Zachary, A Dear Friend To Me
By Anthony Fernandez
Zechariah, Zaka Zulu, or just Zack Mirakimi
It does not matter what he is called to me.
From his brown hair to his big smile
To miss his telltale signs would be infantile.

Since the 6th grade, I have known him so
From the very start, we were friend, never foe.
He has seen my house and I his
In either place, with computers he is a wiz.

A super computer can find
If I simply look deep inside his mind.
With technology, he can find any solution
Whether it is for work or elocution.

In New Orleans together we went
With our church youth our purpose God sent.
From the time we ate to the time we slept
Throughout it all, together we were kept.

His family is sometimes nasty
Mostly because of his sister, Casey.
Though younger than him and half his size
A perfect day she can capsize.

Intelligent and funny would be the words
To describe this person with many cords.
He could give you an answer to any question
Then put a funny twist to make it perfection.

If I could talk with him today
Oh, the thing that I would say.
Zack, you are a precious thing of mine
While you are around, who cares about time?

As the saying goes, it is a trend
I now can say this is the end.

Introduction

I'm Jake Gabbert. I'm from Lewis Center,Ohio. I have played soccer my entire life and I played hockey for 8 years. I have a younger brother Luke, who is 16. I went to Olentangy Orange High School. I like to ski and snowboard. My family takes a yearly ski trip out West, mostly to places in Colorado.

For composing this poem, I first went about figuring out who I wanted to write about and what types of things they are interested in. One challenge was finding a good way for the poem to flow. At the end I think the poem turned out pretty good, mostly because it was someone I knew a lot about. Overall, it was a fairly easy assignment.

Driven

Ever since he was two
Soccer ball at his feet in the shortly cut green grass
Soft kangaroo leather cleats as smooth as silk.

Attacking the goal
Shooting, dribbling, juggling, new tricks.
Desiring to baffle and beat the competition.

See the ball.
Be the ball.
Focus.

Sunday mass
Sometimes celebrated on the playing field or
Leading to a championship.

Weekdays and week nights
Fueled by
Power and dreams.

Trophies and medals in his room
Reminders of where he has been
Motivating him about where he wants to go.

Cassandra Zahran Intro

Greetings,

My name is Cassandra Zahran; My fun fact was I have an identical twin sister, Marina. I also have two older sisters as well, Valentina and Alessandra (Val and Al). Another important part of the family is my cat. I never really liked cats until we adopted, the now love of my life, Bernadette, from a shelter. She looks like one of those fluffy cats you see on the "Fancy Feasts" commercials, it's quite comical. I enjoy eating, I'll try anything, I love to read and watch movies, and I'm a huge music buff.

I wrote my poem about Marina, my twin. I'm not poem-savvy, so writing this felt a little odd. Because every important memory and moment I've had in my life includes my twin, i could of honestly written about anything; so I started with a few lines and essentially ran with whatever was on my mind. Being a twin and trying to describe this, It's one of those things when you say, "oh, you had to be there." Well you can't fathom what it's like having a twin unless you have one. That may not be the case for other twins, but it's our case. We're incredibly close and wouldn't have it any other way.

You Can Call Me "Twin Zahran"

An interesting and incomparable feeling it is
to be best friends with yourself
all thoughts, feelings and concerns swim in both our heads.
a perfect little current that makes its way into my ear and out hers

You could say it's a sixth sense we have,
the ability to know exactly what each other is thinking
you could say it baffles people and irritates others
you could say it's intrusive and there is a lack of privavcy
but, what makes our thoughts worthy is the fact
that we can skip over the minute details and dive deep into an endless conversation about who-knows-what

Differences there are, discretely seen by the eye
the freckle that sits on her right jaw somehow didn't make it on my jaw
both share the same interests, sometimes stemming into different directions
hers deeply engulfed in astrology
how the stars align with a persons character and nature
her interests, like seasons, change frequently
rather unpredictable, yet valued and appreciated, whatever they may be

We manage to get closer daily
whether we're having our fifth phone conversation of the day
or swaying to Edward Sharpe at a show, the same bright-eyed look on our faces
effective and free-spirited Marina is,
little does she know

Introduction by Amanda Gooden

Hello my name is Amanda Gooden. I graduated from Dublin Scioto. I have two sisters, one older who is a junior at Ohio state and one younger who is a Sophomore in high school. I used to live in Italy, I moved there in third grade and moved back to the United States in seventh. I moved around a lot being a military brat so I got to experience many things which I'm very thankful for.  I also love playing and watching sports.

Challenges I had while writing this poem were mostly who I was going to write it about. After a lot of thinking I finally decided to write about my grandma. I was able to come up with so many memories about her it was easy to put it together. The poem ended up turning out really good, or at least I think it did. It allowed me express feelings about my grandma that I would usually not talk about by writing it out.

In memory of my Grandma Carolyn

Grandma, although I can't see you,
I know that you're still here.
Watching down and smiling over me;
Just like you said you'd do.

You were a truly special woman.
A woman of extreme strength, and love,
Remembered for you laughter,
cooking and your special hugs.

Although you could be as stubborn as a mule;
Your suffering became so unbearable to see,
Your disease took everything that you had;
To watch you in pain was so incredibly cruel.

You left this world with dignity and grace;
forever in my heart, lasting memories.
I miss you grandma, your suffering is done.
Until I see you again, go play, go walk,
and most importantly, have fun!
